Updated 8 October 2026: The Sprint pilot call closed on 31 August 2026, and since 1 September 2026 Sprint has been open as a continuous call. We have updated the grant size and the new conditions in this article.
Business Finland Sprint funding is an excellent opportunity for small companies to launch an innovation-based development project and prepare for international growth. The funding supports research and development as well as the study of market and business perspectives, helping a company assess the potential of its solution and build a foundation for the next stages of development.
What is Business Finland Sprint funding?
Business Finland Sprint funding, launched in 2026, is designed to support small companies that have a new innovative solution and a clear ambition to grow internationally. The funding gives companies the opportunity to develop their solutions, assess their business potential and prepare their next development steps in a controlled way before larger development projects.
Sprint funding often serves as a company’s first research and development funding, or as a starting point when a company is considering significant renewal or a change of direction in its business.
Who Sprint funding is for and what it covers
Sprint funding is designed for situations where a company wants to take a clear leap forward on its growth path. It suits both young companies, for whom it is their first research and development funding, and established companies aiming for a deliberate change of direction and to build new business on the basis of innovation.
Sprint funding supports projects that develop new, innovation-based solutions while examining their technical feasibility, customer need and market potential in international markets.
The funding is suitable, for example, for:
- research and development work on a new solution
- assessing technical feasibility and competitive advantage
- building customer and market understanding
- planning commercialisation and international growth
A key aim of the funding is to help the company build credible evidence of the business potential of its solution. With this evidence, the company improves its prospects for further development, larger research and development funding and raising private investment.
A Sprint project must consist mainly of research and development. Alongside this, the project can include activities related to markets and business planning. The solution being funded must be based on an innovation with a competitive advantage and significant international market potential. The company is also expected to be committed to the project and ready for rapid growth.
Sprint funding takes the form of a grant. The grant is €75,000–100,000. The applicant company must have at least €50,000 of equity on its balance sheet and a committed team of at least two people.
Sprint is a clear starting point on a company’s growth path. It helps structure growth targets, sharpen the business and build a foundation for the next development stages on the company’s path to international growth.
